Become A Driver Mentor

Volunteer mentors are an integral and highly valued part of the Learner Driver Mentor Program. Mentors are supported every step of the way: from induction into the role, briefings on key parts of the role, and ongoing training and support once they get started as a volunteer.

The role of a mentor is first and foremost supporting and role-modelling safe driving and helping Waymakers practice their driving skills. Together we're building a more connected Toowoomba!

Am I eligible for this program?

If you are a Waymaker with a valid International Licence or Australian Learners Licence you are eligible to join our program.

I would like help learning to drive. When can I start?

We would love to support you in practicing your driving skills in pursuit of an Australian Drivers Licence. Our program intake is dictated by the number of volunteers we have available and so the wait time to join our program depends on this availability. You are welcome to express your interest and join our wait list by completing this form HERE.

How do I volunteer?

Join our incredible team of volunteer mentors who are driving change throughout Toowoomba! Our volunteer sign up form is available HERE. Once this form is completed our team will be in contact, you will be equipped with the information and skills you need to safely start your mentoring journey, and we will continue to be there to support you every step of the way.

I have someone who could teach me but no access to a car, can I join the program?

If you have someone you know (friend, family member, neighbour etc.) who has held an Open Australian Drivers Licence for over a year and would be willing to teach you but may not have a car or resources available to do so, our team would love to chat. We have some pathways available to support you with use of our vehicles so please contact the team to find out more.

I don’t have a driver's licence yet, how can I get started?

We run a Road Safety Education Program designed to prepare you to take your licence test and join our program with confidence. Please join our wait list and contact the team for more information.
